Precision Fuel & Hydration at trrail.com: fuel and salt tailored to you

Precision Fuel & Hydration (formerly Precision Hydration) starts from a simple idea: every runner loses a different amount of salt through sweat. That's why with this brand you choose your electrolytes based on how much you sweat, and your carbohydrates based on how much you need per hour. No guesswork, but a plan.

Electrolytes: what strength do you need?

• Average sweater: the PH 1000 tablets (500 mg sodium per litre) are a good starting point for training and races of up to a few hours.
• Salty sweater or hot races: the PH 1500 tablets give you more sodium. If you see white salt marks on your clothes, this is probably your strength.
• Topping up on the go: the Electrolyte Capsules are swallowed with water, handy when you refill flasks at aid stations.

Carbohydrates: count your grams

The PF products have the number of grams of carbohydrate in their name, so you can easily hit your target per hour. The PF 30 Gel is a mild gel with 30 grams of carbohydrate, also available as a caffeine version. With the PF 90 Gel one flask holds enough for an hour or more. Prefer something to chew? Choose the PF 30 Chews or the PF 60 Chew Bar. More choice in energy gels and energy chews.

Frequently asked questions

How many carbohydrates do I need per hour?
For runs longer than an hour and a half, most sports dietitians recommend 60 to 90 grams per hour. Start lower and build up during training so your stomach gets used to it.

How do I know how much salt I lose?
White marks on your clothes, salt on your skin or cramps during long runs are signs that you lose a lot of salt. In that case, start with the PH 1500.
