Overmitts

Wet and wind is the fastest route to numb hands. A waterproof overmitt often weighs less than 30 grams, fits in your vest pocket and goes over your glove in seconds. Essential in the mountains and often mandatory at UTMB and other ultras.

Waterproof overmitts: the lightest protection against rain and wind

An overmitt is a thin, waterproof shell without insulation that you pull over your glove or bare hand. It keeps out rain and wind, and because your fingers sit together your hands stay noticeably warmer.

Why an overmitt?

  • Super light and small: most models weigh 13 to 35 grams.
  • Easy to combine: wear it over a thin liner in mild cold or over a warm glove in winter.
  • Mandatory kit: many ultras, such as UTMB, require waterproof overmitts in bad weather.

What to look for

Check the hydrostatic head (for example 10,000 or 20,000 mm), taped seams and a wrist closure that seals tightly. Choose a size roomy enough to fit over your glove.

Overmitt or 2-in-1?

A separate overmitt is the lightest option and works with any glove. Prefer everything in one? Then check out our 2-in-1 gloves with a built-in mitt.

Frequently asked questions

Are overmitts warm?
They don't insulate on their own, but they keep out wind and wet, so the warmth of your glove is preserved. For real cold, choose warm mittens.

Which size should I choose?
Between two sizes? Go for the larger one, especially if you wear a glove underneath.
