Description

A waterproof trail shoe for cold, wet trail runs. The Gore-Tex Invisible Fit membrane keeps rain and wet paths out, so your feet stay drier and warmer for longer. You notice this most on long autumn and winter runs over soaked grass and boggy trails.

Low to the ground, with protection. On technical terrain you feel what is happening under your foot, and a flexible rock plate in the forefoot absorbs sharp stones and roots. The Vibram Megagrip outsole grips on wet rocks, mud and loose ground.

Torn between this and the Terraventure 5 without Gore-Tex? If you run a lot in rain and cold and over wet paths, the GTX is the better choice. If you mostly run in summer or cross streams where water can come over the rim, the version without a membrane dries faster. If you want a lot of cushioning for ultras, another shoe is a better fit.

Choose it if you want to keep running in wet weather without soaked feet.

Is the Terraventure 5 GTX waterproof?

Yes, the Gore-Tex Invisible Fit membrane keeps rain and wet ground out. If water comes in over the top of the shoe, it does get in and dries more slowly through the membrane.

How does it differ from the regular Terraventure 5?

It is the same low trail shoe with a rock plate and Vibram Megagrip outsole, but with a waterproof membrane. That makes it warmer and less breathable than the version without Gore-Tex.

What distances is it suited for?

Mainly short and mid-distance trail runs and technical outings in wet weather. If you want more cushioning for long ultras, look at a shoe like the MTN Racer 4.

Can I use my own insole?

Yes, the insole is removable, so you can replace it with your own (orthopedic) insole. Keep in mind that thickness and shape can change the volume inside the shoe.
